Parenting Consultations

Sometimes parents just need some behind the scenes support to address the inevitable rough patches of raising children. If your child doesn’t need ongoing therapy and/or weekly child therapy sessions are too big a commitment, parenting consultations can be a great way to go.

Together we will discuss your concerns and determine whether they can be addressed through parenting consultations alone or whether additional support is needed from me or from other service providers.

You may find that a few appointments is all you need.  On the other hand, I may recommend certain parenting books, ongoing therapy for you or your child, parent-child work, or other support and services. Of course, it will be up to you to decide whether to follow through on any suggestions I offer.

If you decide that your child needs his/her own therapy, parenting consultations will continue during child therapy treatment.

Parenting consultations can help you:

  • Identify underlying causes of challenging behavior
  • Deepen your knowledge of child development
  • Support a child who is struggling or challenging
  • Help your child adjust to big changes
  • Identify positive discipline strategies when the status quo isn’t working
  • Find a middle way, when two parents have different approaches to parenting
  • Find ways to reduce sibling rivalry or eliminate unnecessary stress in your family
  • Identify needed assessments, support, or services
  • Better advocate for your child at school
  • Become the parent you want to be, but never had as a child

Best of all, parenting support can help you:

  • Create more fun, peace, and harmony in your family
  • Gain confidence in your capacity to nurture and support your child
  • Enjoy parenting more
  • Deepen the bond between you and your child
